Questions families ask

The same answers that have been on the practice site, gathered in one place.

How do I know it's time?

Quality of life can be difficult to judge alone. Changes in appetite, mobility, breathing, pain, accidents, anxiety, or loss of interest in normal routines may be signs your pet needs additional support. We can help you evaluate comfort and next steps.

What happens during an in home appointment?

We begin by answering questions and giving your family time. When everyone is ready, your pet receives gentle sedation to help them relax and become comfortable. The final medication is given only after your pet is fully sedated.

Will my pet feel pain?

The goal is a calm and pain-free passing. Sedation is used first so your pet can become deeply relaxed and comfortable before the euthanasia medication is administered.

How long does the visit take?

Most visits take about 45 to 60 minutes, but we do not rush families. The timing depends on your pet's needs and your family's pace.

What aftercare options are available?

Communal cremation is $200. Private cremation, with ashes returned, is $390. A paw print and a fur clipping are included free. Additional memorial keepsakes are available for purchase.

Is this for emergencies?

No. If your pet is in active distress or needs immediate stabilization, please contact a 24/7 emergency veterinary hospital.

Can my children be present?

Yes, children can be present if you feel it is appropriate for your family. We are happy to discuss how to prepare children and answer any questions about including them.

Can other pets be present?

Yes, other pets can be present if you would like. Some families find it helpful for other pets to have closure, while others prefer to keep them in another room.

Do you serve my suburb?

We serve Chicago and many surrounding Chicagoland communities, including Oak Park, Evanston, Cicero, Skokie, and Naperville. If you are unsure whether we serve your area, please text us your ZIP code and we will let you know. Travel fee $50 on weekdays $100 on evenings, weekends, and holidays
